Sportovní hala Vodova
Brno, Czechia
The STAREZ ARÉNA Vodova is a compact structure visible today that took shape after 2001, closing the gap between the city's older sporting ambitions and the demands of the new millennium.
The wooden floor, or palubovka, carries the weight of everything from the 2010 Fiba Women's World Championship to the local floorball season, shifting its allegiance as the banners change.
The arena sits in the Královo Pole district, less than a stone's throw from the residential blocks that tower in the background. It does not pretend to be a cathedral of football; it is a working hall for ball games, hosting volleyball, boxing and basketball with equal indifference to the hierarchy of the leagues. When the main hall fills, the crowd presses against the railings, and the noise bounces off the high ceiling, creating an intimacy that no open-air stadium can replicate.
