UDS Molot
Perm, Russia
Formerly: UDS Molot
What distinguishes this ground is not its modern appearance but the weight of its history. It opened as an open-air ice hockey stadium in 1966 with a capacity of 15,000, before being reconstructed into an enclosed sports palace for the IX Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the RSFSR in 1989. The transformation was driven by V.N. Lebedev, the director of the Motovilikha Plants, after whom the venue was later renamed in 2010. He served as the plant director from 1952 to 1976 and was a Hero of Socialist Labor. The venue was one of the first in the USSR to employ an artificial ice surface, a decision that shaped its identity long before the 2023 renovation updated the facade and roof for modern fire safety standards.
Today, the arena sits between the past and the present. It hosts HC Molot in the VHL, MHC Molot in the MHL, and BC Parma in the VTB United League, while BC Ural-Great once called it home. The venue has also echoed with music; a concert by the band Kino took place on March 16, 1990, and Deep Purple performed there in October 2008. The attendance record belongs to a VTB United League basketball match between Parma and CSKA Moscow on April 13, 2017, when 7,316 spectators filled the seats.
