United Center
Chicago, United States
United Center is a covered sports arena in Chicago, Illinois. The design accommodates two very different sports, switching from hardwood for basketball to ice for hockey, which means the playing surface changes depending on the fixture.
The most striking feature of the building is the central atrium space where a statue of Michael Jordan stands. It was installed during an expansion project in 2016–2017 that also modified the luxury box levels. The arena holds crowds of up to 23,500 for concerts, but for the games that define its reputation, it seats 20,917 for basketball and 19,717 for hockey.
Inside, the seating rises steeply around the court or rink, ensuring that fans remain close to the action regardless of the sport in play. It is the second-largest arena of its kind in the NHL after the Bell Centre, yet it maintains a distinct identity through its dual-purpose layout.
