Dunkerque Corsaires

Clément Thomas played 25 seasons for Dunkerque and captained the side for nine of them. He is the name the town's hockey is tied to. Behind him came Loïc Destoop, a local product with more than 270 appearances, and Francis Ballet, who captained from 2013 to 2020.

Those years were not steady. The Corsaires reached the top flight, the Ligue Magnus, for the 2002–03 season and went down after 2003–04 for financial reasons. They returned in 2007 and dropped again, this time to Division 2. The title there in 2011 brought them back to Division 1, the second tier, where they have stayed. An earlier trophy, the Critérium National (Nationale 1B) of 1983, dates from long before any of this.

The club was founded in 1970 and takes its name from Jean Bart, the privateer born in Dunkerque in the 17th century. Its blue and yellow are those of the Flemish lion, a symbol of the city. The Patinoire Michel Raffoux holds 1,400 spectators, and its regular big night is the "Derby du Nord" against the Valenciennes Diables Rouges.

The best recent run came in the Coupe de France in 2024. Dunkerque knocked out two Ligue Magnus sides, Bordeaux and Chambéry, then lost the final 4–7 to the Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble. The Corsaires have never won that cup, and they have not been back in the Ligue Magnus since 2007.
