Mont Blanc

The Patinoire de Saint-Gervais seats around 1,850 people. It has held a side that won the French title more than once. The reason is that two mountain towns, Saint-Gervais and neighbouring Megève, each ran a strong hockey club.

The Sporting Hockey Club de Saint-Gervais, the Aigles, won the national championship in 1969. The Club des Sports de Megève, the Boucs, won it in 1984. Two years later, in 1986, the clubs merged as the Aigles du Mont-Blanc, and the combined team took the title in 1987 and again in 1988. The arrangement ended in 1989.

The clubs came together again in 2002 as the Avalanche du Mont-Blanc. This version reached the Ligue Magnus, France's top tier, and played there from 2005 to 2011. In 2010, during that spell, the name changed to the Yétis du Mont-Blanc, which the club still uses. It now plays in Division 1, a step below the level of its title years.

Philippe Bozon and Paulin Bordeleau are among the players tied to the club's past. Bordeleau is the name that links the mountain teams to the wider story of French hockey.

Chambéry, the Éléphants, are the rivals. Matches between the two are known as the Derby Savoyard.
