Slovan Bratislava women moved clear at the top of the I Liga with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Komárno on Saturday. The result came in the seventh round of the regular season, played on 26 September at Komárno's ground. Slovan had already looked strong before kick-off, sitting second with 15 points from five wins and a single defeat.
The visitors struck early, finding the net in the 14th minute. They doubled their advantage shortly after, scoring again in the 24th. And here's the thing — Komárno, who had managed just two wins all season, looked beyond recovery before the half was out. A fourth goal came in the 40th minute, followed by another just before the interval in the 45th.
Slovan continued to press after the break. A fifth goal arrived in the 77th minute, and they even missed a penalty in the 80th. To be fair, Komárno offered little resistance throughout. They had lost 8-0 to Spartak Myjava on their previous outing and were now heavy favourites to finish near the bottom.
The result leaves Slovan on 15 points, two clear of anyone else, while Komárno remain seventh with seven points after six matches. By then, the gap between the two sides was as clear as the scoreline suggested. Slovan's recent form has been ruthless — five consecutive wins, including 7-0 victories over Ružomberok and Dukla.
Komárno's struggles are becoming familiar. They had drawn 1-1 with Spartak Trnava on 5 September, but since then have conceded 14 goals in two defeats. This match added to that tally without offering much in return. The table tells the story, and the story is not kind to the hosts.
