Ameen Al Dakhil

Ameen Al-Dakhil's path to the Premier League ran through three Belgian clubs. Born in Baghdad, he came through the youth ranks at Kortenaken, Hoegaarden-Outgaarden and Tienen before Anderlecht took him on, and it was at Standard Liège, where he progressed through the academy from 2017, that he made his senior debut in 2021, taking 13 league appearances.

A move to Sint-Truiden in January 2022 brought regular football, 25 league appearances, before Burnley took him to England a year later. At Turf Moor he was part of the squad that won the EFL Championship in 2022–23, though his own involvement that season was limited to eight league games. He found a different kind of recognition on 31 January 2024, scoring against Manchester City to become the first player born in Iraq to score in the Premier League.

Stuttgart signed him in August 2024. He has made 15 first-team league appearances for the club, with three further outings for the second team in the 3. Liga, and in his first season he won the DFB-Pokal, as Stuttgart beat Arminia Bielefeld 4–2 in the final on 24 May 2025.

Internationally, Al-Dakhil holds Belgian citizenship and has represented Belgium at every youth level from U17 to U21, scoring once at U17 level, before earning his first caps for the senior side in 2023.
