About the player
Alex Mortensen came through Kalmar FF's academy, where he finished as top scorer of the Youth Allsvenskan Södra in 2020. He made his professional debut for Kalmar in the Svenska Cupen that October, a 4–1 win over Asarums IF, and signed his first professional contract with the club in December of the same year.
The following year brought a move abroad: in July 2021 Mortensen joined FC Groningen on loan from Kalmar, and by May 2022 the Dutch club had made the transfer permanent. Injuries and competition for places restricted him to just two senior league appearances across three seasons at Groningen, with most of his football coming for the under-21 side.
Looking for regular first-team football, Mortensen returned to Sweden in August 2025, joining Ljungskile SK in the Ettan Södra on a free transfer. He made 11 appearances and scored twice before moving on again in January 2026, this time to IK Brage. He has made 21 appearances for Brage in the Superettan, scoring three goals.
Mortensen represented Sweden at youth level but has not received a senior call-up.
