About the player
Afonso Lee is a product of Sporting CP's academy, having joined the club's youth ranks in the 2017/18 season after coming through CF Os Belenenses' youth setup. He signed his first professional contract with Sporting at the age of 14, and has since worked his way up through the club's age groups, playing in the UEFA Youth League against opposition such as Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt at U19 level. That progression has now taken him to Sporting CP B, where he plays in Liga Portugal 2.
Born in Oeiras, he has also been capped by Portugal at youth level. He has featured for the Portugal U17 side, was named in the U18 squad, and has earned caps for the U19s, with whom he took part in the UEFA European U19 Championship.
His contract at Sporting CP runs to the middle of 2027, and his path through the club so far has been entirely internal — a academy graduate rather than a signing, with no transfer fees attached to any of his moves within the Sporting system.
