Afonso Patrão

Afonso Patrão was born in Esposende and passed through FC Marinhas and Casa Benfica before joining Braga's academy in 2019, then spent a season in Brazil with Palmeiras before returning to Braga in 2021.

In January 2026 Braga sold him permanently to KVC Westerlo for €220,000, a fee covering his training rights, while keeping a 20% sell-on clause on any future transfer. He signed with Westerlo until June 2030. Barely eight months later, in September 2026, he moved on again, to Pafos FC in the Cypriot First Division, where he now wears the number 17 shirt. Westerlo did not disclose the fee for that sale, though his market value has been estimated between €1.6M and €2.4M.

Patrão's progress has been most visible with Portugal's youth sides. He has been capped at U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 level, scoring six goals in 20 appearances for the U17s and seven in 15 for the U18s. He has not yet been called up to the senior national team.
