Benjamin Anthony Brereton Díaz

Ben Brereton Díaz has spent much of his career being loaned out rather than settled. Signed for an estimated £7 million following a spell at Villarreal, he was almost immediately sent to Sheffield United in January of that year, scoring six goals in 14 appearances. A second loan to Sheffield United followed in January 2025, yielding four goals in 17 games, before a further loan move to Derby County for the 2025–26 season.

His development began far from Chile, the country he represents at international level. Brought through Manchester United's academy before switching to Stoke City and then Nottingham Forest, he made his senior debut for Forest in January 2017 and was named the EFL Championship's Apprentice of the Year that season. A loan to Blackburn Rovers in 2018 turned into a permanent transfer the following year for a fee believed to be around £7 million, and it was there that he had his most productive spell: 144 appearances and 45 goals, the EFL Championship Player of the Month award in September 2021, and a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for 2021–22.

Internationally, he made his Chile debut in June 2021 against Argentina at the Copa América. He has gone on to earn 42 caps and score 10 goals for the national side.
