About the player
Bernhard Unger made his senior debut for SV Mattersburg's first team on 4 July 2020, in an Austrian Bundesliga match against FK Austria Wien that ended in a 1-0 defeat. It was his only appearance for the club. Mattersburg ceased operations the following month.
By then he had spent years in the club's system. His youth career took in SC Theresienfeld, 1. SC Sollenau and SC Wiener Neustadt. He then moved to Mattersburg's youth side and on to AKA Burgenland. From 2016 he played for SV Mattersburg II, and those seasons brought three titles: the Burgenlandliga in 2017/18 and 2019/20, and the Regionalliga Ost in 2018/19.
With Mattersburg gone, Unger joined SK Rapid Wien on a free transfer in August 2020. He stayed four years. Most of that time was with SK Rapid Wien II, where he played from 2020 to 2023. The reserves competed in the Regionalliga Ost in 2020/21, 2022/23 and 2023/24, with a season in the 2. Liga in between, in 2021/22. He made 11 league appearances for the second team. For the first team he played one Bundesliga match.
In June 2024 he left Rapid as a free agent and signed for First Vienna FC on a contract running until 2026. His debut for the club came in the 2. Liga. He takes the number 1 shirt there.
