Charles Telfer

Charles Telfer came through Rangers' youth academy after being spotted at a community course, and he lifted the Scottish Youth Cup with the club in 2013–14. His path to first-team football at Ibrox produced only a single senior appearance before a tribunal set his transfer fee to Dundee United in 2014. The move paid off in patches: he was named SPFL Young Player of the Month that November, was an unused substitute in the 2015 Scottish League Cup Final, and won the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2016–17 during a spell that also included a loan at Livingston.

What followed was a tour of the lower and middle reaches of Scottish football rather than a settled career at one level. Telfer moved through Almere City, Greenock Morton and Falkirk before joining Airdrieonians, where his contribution was most tangible: he helped the club win promotion to the Scottish Championship via the play-offs in 2022–23. Loan spells at Ross County and Hamilton Academical followed before he returned to Airdrieonians, and he has now joined Raith Rovers on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract.

At youth international level Telfer was a regular for Scotland, collecting caps across the U17, U19 and U21 age groups and scoring for the U17s, though full recognition never followed. He has built his career on adaptability more than on staying anywhere long, and Raith Rovers becomes the latest club to bet on that.
