About the player
Cèbio Soukou was born in Bochum and holds German citizenship, yet he plays international football for Benin. He made his debut for them against Togo on 24 March 2019. That summer he played in all five of Benin's matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, where the team reached the quarter-finals. His first goal for the national side came in a friendly against Gabon on 11 October 2020. By the 2023/24 season he had 24 caps and four goals.
His club career began in the youth academy of VfL Bochum, and he made his senior debut for the second team in the Regionalliga. In 2012 he moved to Rot-Weiss Essen, where he stayed until January 2016 and became a key striker in the lower German divisions. Erzgebirge Aue then signed him for a reported €15,000. He spent two seasons there, playing in both the 3. Liga and the 2. Bundesliga.
Hansa Rostock signed him in May 2018 on a one-year contract with an option for a second. In 2019 he joined Arminia Bielefeld, and he was in the squad that won promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. He left after the 2020/21 season for SV Sandhausen.
In 2023 he went abroad for the first time at club level, joining Bandırmaspor in Turkey. A year later he moved to Ümraniyespor. In the 2024/25 season in the Turkish 1. Lig he played 33 matches, scoring six goals and providing five assists. In 2025/26 he has played 23 matches so far, with three goals and two assists.
