About the player
David Abagna's move to APOEL Nicosia came after a loan spell in Moldova that few in Cyprus would have tracked closely. At Petrocub Hîncești he made ten appearances and scored four goals, helping the club to a domestic double of the Moldovan Super Liga and Cupa Moldova. He added a first piece of Cypriot silverware almost immediately, winning the Super Cup with the club that year.
The path to Nicosia started far from Cyprus. Abagna came through Wa All Stars, winning the Ghana Premier League title with the club in 2016, before spells at Ashanti Gold and Real Tamale United.
Internationally, Abagna has represented Ghana at various levels. He received a late call-up to the Black Stars B side in July 2017 for the 2018 CHAN qualifiers, and he was later included in Ghana's squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. At senior level, he has earned seven caps without scoring.
His time in Nicosia proved to be a staging post rather than a long stay. In March 2026, APOEL sold him to Kazakhstan's FC Ordabasy for a fee in the region of €600,000, with Abagna signing a contract running to the end of 2027.
