About the player
Dan-Axel Zagadou came through Paris Saint-Germain's academy after joining the club in 2011 from US Créteil, and played for the PSG reserve side in the 2016/17 season without breaking into the senior team. His development was already being noticed on the international stage: in 2016 he was named to the Team of the Tournament at the UEFA European Under-17 Championship. In 2017 he left as a free agent for Borussia Dortmund, where he spent five seasons and won the DFB-Pokal in 2020–21 and the DFL-Supercup in 2019.
Injuries have shaped much of his career. In November 2019, playing for Dortmund against Tottenham Hotspur, he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee that kept him sidelined for around ten to eleven months. A torn muscle fibre followed in January 2021, and recurring knee problems in 2022, late 2023 and early 2024 each cost him extended spells on the sidelines.
Zagadou moved to VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer in September 2022, signing a contract running to 2026. With Stuttgart, he added a second DFB-Pokal to his collection in the 2024–25 season. He has yet to make his senior debut for the French national team.
