About the player
Fernandez was born in London and came through the Brentford academy before moving to Gillingham in 2018, where he never made a senior league appearance for the club. He dropped into non-league football with Ramsgate in the Isthmian League South East Division.
Peterborough United signed him in July 2021, and it was there that his career took shape. The high point came in the 2024–25 season, when he was part of the Peterborough squad that won the EFL Trophy, beating Birmingham City 2–0 in the final. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony later pointed to that value when Fernandez's move to Rangers was agreed for a fee of around £3.5 million plus add-ons.
Born in England, Fernandez had no youth caps for the Three Lions. He received his first call-up to the Super Eagles in March 2026 and made his debut against Iran, scoring his first international goal four days later against Jordan. By the middle of the year he had earned three caps.
