About the player
Álvarez has just returned to Tigre on a free transfer. The left-footed defender made his name at Belgrano, where he spent six years in the first team from 2013 to 2019, before a loan spell took him to Quilmes.
The move that most reshaped his career came in August 2020, when Asteras Tripolis brought him to the Greek Super League, again without a fee changing hands. He stayed five seasons, made over a hundred appearances and scored twice, becoming a fixture in a foreign league far from home before his contract ran out in July 2025.
He is back at Tigre now, signed as a free agent, wearing the left side of defence at 183 cm. None of his moves have come with a transfer fee attached — Belgrano to Quilmes, Quilmes to Asteras Tripolis, and now the return to Tigre were all free transfers, a pattern that has defined how his career has been built move by move rather than through big-money deals.
