Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson

Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson made his senior debut for Iceland in November 2020 at the age of 17, becoming the fifth-youngest player to appear for the national team. Less than a year later he went further still: in October 2021, at 18 years, six months and 15 days old, he scored to become Iceland's youngest ever goalscorer. That run of early recognition also saw him named on The Guardian's "Next Generation 2020" list of promising young talents.

His club career began at ÍA Akranes before a move to Sweden with IFK Norrköping. FC København signed him in 2021, and he won the Danish Championship in two consecutive seasons and added the Danish Cup as well. A loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf followed in 2023, turned into a permanent transfer the following year, before 1. FC Köln brought him to the Bundesliga.

For Iceland, he has continued to be a regular presence in midfield, including one in the final as Iceland won the 2022 Baltic Cup against Latvia. He was part of the squad through Iceland's Euro 2024 qualifying campaign and play-offs, though he was not selected when the final tournament squad was named.
