About the player
Jens Mathijsen grew up playing for SV VOAB in Goirle, the same amateur club where his father, former international Joris Mathijsen, started out. At nine he moved into the Willem II academy, working his way through the youth ranks before breaking into the first team during the 2023–24 season.
In August 2024 he put pen to paper on his first professional contract, tying him to the club until June 2027. As a graduate of the academy rather than a signing, his promotion to the senior squad came without a transfer fee attached. He began that debut campaign wearing number 48 before switching to his current number.
