About the player
John Otomewo began his professional career at Abia Comets, joining at the age of 17. He moved on a free transfer to Gombe United in March 2025. His time in Jerusalem ended in July 2026 with a move to Stade de Reims, a deal reported as the biggest sale in Hapoel Jerusalem's history at a fee of €1.6 million.
At Reims, Otomewo plays as a defensive midfielder wearing the number 5 shirt. In April 2026, while still at Hapoel Jerusalem, the CIES Football Observatory rated him the best U20 midfielder among European leagues outside the top five.
Otomewo has not yet made his senior debut for the Super Eagles. Coach Eric Chelle said in April 2026 that he considered the midfielder too young for a senior call-up at that stage, pointing instead to development through the U20 or U23 levels. He was nonetheless included in a 28-man preseason list for the Super Eagles in July 2026.
