About the player
Jonathan Mexique's route to Sochaux ran through nearly a decade of loans and free transfers. Born in Le Mans, he came up through Le Mans' youth ranks. Every one of those moves came without a transfer fee.
He settled into senior football at Cholet, joining permanently in 2019 after a loan spell, then moved on free transfers first to Châteauroux and later to Nîmes Olympique. Sochaux is now his fourth permanent club, signed on another free transfer. Mexique has built his career in French football's lower tiers, largely in the National and Ligue 2, without a major honour to his name.
Internationally, he represents Martinique. He made his debut for the side in a CONCACAF Nations League match against Panama. He has gone on to earn caps for the national team and has scored for them.
