Martinique

Martinique never had a national federation of its own until the Ligue de Football de la Martinique took shape in 1953, and the island's team remains a branch of the French Football Federation rather than a FIFA member — barred from the World Cup, competing instead within CONCACAF, which it joined as an associate in 1964 and as a full member in 2013. The first international came earlier still, a 3–2 win over Barbados on 11 February 1931. In 2010 the side took the nickname Les Matininos, after 19th-century Martinican patriots who fought for the abolition of slavery.

Its best spell ran through the 1980s and into the 1990s: CFU Championship titles in 1983, 1985 and 1993, then a runners-up finish in 1994. The 2002 Gold Cup produced the furthest run against senior CONCACAF opposition, a quarter-final lost to Canada on penalties. Guadeloupe supplies the fiercest fixture, played out as the Antilles Derby.

Daniel Hérelle, capped 32 times between 2013 and 2023, is the most familiar face of the recent side; Cayol's 15 goals across the 1960s and 1970s have stood as the scoring record since well before most of the current squad was born. That squad now draws on players contracted in mainland France — Ludovic Blas at Stade Rennais and Kenny Lala at Stade Brestois among them.

Matches at home are played at the Stade Pierre-Aliker in Fort-de-France, which holds around 16,300.
