About the player
Juan Ignacio Saborido did not come through a big club's first team. Raised in the Estudiantes de La Plata youth ranks, he never made his debut there and instead built his career from the lower divisions, breaking through at Villa San Carlos in 2019 in the Primera B Metropolitana. He racking up 89 appearances and three goals.
A loan to Paraguay's General Caballero JLM in 2023 pushed him further. He scored against Guaraní and Sportivo Ameliano in the Primera División, and got a taste of continental football in the Copa Sudamericana, drawing 2-2 with Tacuary before going out on penalties. He returned to Villa San Carlos at the end of that season.
The move that changed things came in January 2024, when Platense took full ownership of his rights. He settled in quickly as an undisputed starter and became one of the pillars of the Platense defence. That trust paid off in 2025: Saborido started in the final of the Torneo Apertura, which Platense won 1-0 against Huracán in Santiago del Estero to end a wait of 120 years for a first Primera División title.
