About the player
Julian Krahl was taken into Energie Cottbus's academy in 2009. Five years later RB Leipzig signed him, and he spent the rest of his youth career there, playing for the U17 and U19 sides and earning a call-up to the senior squad in the 2018/19 season without making a competitive appearance.
A free transfer took him to 1. FC Köln in May 2019 on a three-year contract. He never played for the first team there, but made 43 appearances for the reserve side, 1. FC Köln II, over two seasons. In 2021 he moved to FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin, where regular football followed: 26 appearances and a Berliner Pokal win in the 2021–22 season, a result that sent the club into the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
Kaiserslautern signed him on a free transfer in June 2022, and he has since made himself the club's first-choice goalkeeper. The high point came in the 2023–24 season, when Krahl started every match of a DFB-Pokal run that included a 3–1 win over Hertha BSC in the quarter-final and ended in the final itself, a 0–1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. Kaiserslautern extended his contract in May 2024. He has also worn Germany's colours at youth level, with caps for the U17, U18 and U19 sides between 2016 and 2019. In the current 2. Bundesliga season he has not conceded any goals from the opening four rounds.
