Lucien Jefferson Agoumé

Lucien Agoumé's breakthrough came with France's youth side rather than at club level. He captained the national under-17 team at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, scored against Chile and led the side to third place, a run that earned him a place in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship Team of the Tournament that year. He went on to captain France at under-18 and under-21 level as well, though he has not yet been capped by the senior side. His path through French football started at grassroots level with Clémenceau before Racing Besançon, and he settled at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard's academy, working through the B team before making his mark with the senior side. Inter Milan moved for him in 2019, but a run of loan spells followed rather than sustained football in Milan: Spezia, then Stade Brestois, then ES Troyes, as the midfielder searched for regular minutes away from Serie A. Sevilla gave him that platform. He joined the Andalusian club on loan with an option to buy, and the option was exercised, turning the move into a permanent transfer built around a fixed fee with a sell-on clause attached. At Sevilla he operates as a defensive midfielder, a role suited to the reading of the game he showed as France's youth captain, and he now wears the number six shirt for the club.
