Liam Anthony Kelly

Liam Anthony Kelly is a midfielder whose career has been defined by steady progression through the lower tiers of English football. Born in Basingstoke, he came through the Reading academy, where he was recognised as the club’s rookie of the year in 2017. That recognition marked the beginning of a move abroad, signing as a free agent for Feyenoord in 2019. The Dutch experiment yielded little first-team action, leading to a loan spell at Oxford United where he made 30 appearances.

The turning point in his development came after returning to England to join Rochdale. During his two years there, he became a regular starter, making 63 appearances and scoring six goals. His form attracted Crawley Town, and he was instrumental in their push for promotion. In the 2024 League Two Play-off Final, he scored the opening goal in a 2–0 victory over Crewe Alexandra, securing the title for his side. That moment remains a key memory of his time at the club.

Following that success, Kelly moved to Milton Keynes Dons in July 2024. He quickly established himself as a key figure in the midfield, wearing the number six shirt. His performances were significant enough to earn him the club’s Player of the Season award. Under his influence, the team achieved automatic promotion from League Two. He then signed for Peterborough United in August 2026 on a three-year deal.

Internationally, Kelly holds Irish citizenship through heritage. He represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 levels, scoring once for the younger side. Although he was called up to provisional senior squads in 2017 and 2018, he has never earned a full senior cap. Standing at 1.78 metres, he uses his right foot to control the game. His career shows a player who finds his best form in competitive environments, moving from a youth prospect in Berkshire to a promotion-winning force in the English leagues.
