Leonardo Rugel

Leonardo Rugel's path through Peruvian football began far from any major academy, on the pitches of Zorritos in Tumbes, where he played for local schools José Junior and Academia Quevedo before moving into district amateur football with Sport Progresistas Los Pinos and Club Social Amigos del Miramar. Universitario de Deportes took notice, bringing him into its youth ranks in 2017 and promoting him to the reserve side two years later. A loan to Universidad Técnica de Cajamarca in 2020 gave him his professional debut, and he returned to Universitario for the following two seasons.

The high point of that second spell at Universitario came in 2022, when Rugel scored against Alianza Lima in the Clásico. That same year, he was included in the Peru under-23 squad for a friendly against Chile's under-23 side, following an earlier call-up to the under-20 squad for the 2021 Sudamericano Sub-20 qualifiers, though he did not feature in that tournament.

Since leaving Universitario, Rugel's career has been a tour of Peruvian clubs on free transfers and loans rather than fees: a move to Deportivo Municipal in 2023 coincided with the club's relegation, before he signed with Cienciano in December of that year and made 13 appearances through the 2024 season. He returned to UTC Cajamarca for 2025. He has yet to win a senior cap for Peru or claim a major title, and his move to ADT continues that itinerant career.
