Mamadou Maiga

Mamadou Maiga's route to Russian professional football ran through a Moscow amateur side and a job as a courier. Born in Bamako, he began at Jeanne d'Arc before a brief move to Belarusian club Naftan in 2016, where two friendly matches were followed by a change of management and his departure. He stayed in Moscow afterwards, playing for the amateur club FC Boradigyakh and its reserve side while working as a courier and selling cigarettes.

The turn came in July 2020, when Veles Moscow signed him, making him the first Malian player to appear in Russia's National League. He made 60 league appearances for the club, scoring once, before Pari NN paid a reported fee of around €250,000 for him in June 2022. He signed an initial three-year contract, which the club extended in September 2023 to run until 2027, and has since passed 100 appearances for Pari NN across all competitions. He now wears the number 8 shirt as a defensive midfielder and, as of the 2025/2026 season, captains the side.

Maiga acquired Russian citizenship in November 2021, but his international career has stayed with Mali. He received his first call-up to the senior national team in March 2024, though a debut did not follow immediately. It came two years later, on 31 March 2026, when he played in a goalless friendly against Russia — his only cap to date.
