Mamadou Dumbia

Mamadou Doumbia first drew wide attention at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, where he was named Player of the Match in Mali's opening game against Uzbekistan. Mali finished the tournament in third place, taking the bronze medal.

That summer's performances followed a strong U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, where Mali finished fourth. Doumbia was included in the Best XI and ended as the second-highest scorer in the competition. At 192 cm and left-footed, he was a striker.

His route to Europe was unusual. He had come through the youth system at AS Black Stars in Bamako and had not played a senior competitive match for the club when Watford signed him. The English club agreed a six-year contract in February 2024, and he joined officially on 1 July 2024. He made his senior debut for Watford the following month, in August 2024.

The international step came quickly too. Doumbia made his debut for the senior Mali side on 26 March 2024, against Nigeria. His first goal at that level followed on 19 November 2024, against Eswatini in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. He has seven caps and one goal for Mali.

He has yet to win a senior trophy at club level. For now, the bronze medal from Indonesia and his place in the Mali senior squad remain the clearest markers of a career that has moved from Bamako's youth football to English professional football in a short time.
