About the player
Willem II signed Mats Lemmens as a free agent on 23 July 2026 after RWDM Brussels lost its professional licence over financial difficulties and were relegated administratively.
Lemmens is a Genk product, coming through Genk VV and then the KRC Genk academy before crossing to Italy in 2020 to join Lecce's youth setup. He never made a competitive appearance for Lecce's first team, but he won the Primavera 1 title with the club's under-19 side in 2022/23.
It was at RWDM that Lemmens established himself, making 28 league appearances and scoring once in the 2025/26 season before the club's licence troubles forced the move to Willem II. He has made three Eredivisie appearances since arriving at the club. The right-footed defender has yet to earn a senior cap for Belgium.
