About the player
Nigel Cello Lonwijk has built his career almost entirely away from the club that signed him. Wolverhampton Wanderers brought him in from PSV Eindhoven's academy in January 2020, yet he never made a single senior appearance for the Wolves first team, spending his contract years shuttled out on loan instead — to Fortuna Sittard, Plymouth Argyle, Grasshopper Club Zürich, Wycombe Wanderers, Huddersfield Town and, most recently, Luton Town.
That loan spell at Plymouth brought his first honour, as the Devon club won the League One title in the 2022–23 season. At Luton, Lonwijk made 37 League One appearances and scored twice against Reading, while also picking up the EFL Trophy with the club in the 2025–26 campaign.
Born in Goirle, the centre-back has Surinamese heritage, and he was capped once by the Dutch under-16s in 2018.
The Wolves chapter finally closed in July 2026, when Lonwijk completed a permanent transfer to Maccabi Haifa, with his parent club retaining a sell-on clause on any future sale.
