About the player
Nito Gomes, as Fernando de Lacerda Gomes is known, began his senior career at Benfica Bissau before moving to Spain, where he turned out for Talavera B and CD Trujillo. That changed at CS Marítimo, which he joined in October 2022 and where he started with the reserve side before being promoted to the senior squad. He made his Primeira Liga debut for the Madeira club on 22 January 2023 in a 1–0 win over Estoril.
A right-footed centre-back who has also filled in as a defensive midfielder, Gomes made 22 appearances for the club in the 2025/2026 campaign.
Internationally, Gomes represents Guinea-Bissau, for whom he made his senior debut in 2023 and has since won around six caps. He scored his first goal for the national side against Sierra Leone in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in September 2023, and later that year he was part of the Guinea-Bissau squad at the tournament itself in Côte d'Ivoire, where the team went out at the group stage.
