About the player
Roberto Carlos Fernández Toro broke through at Blooming, making his senior debut in 2018 and scoring his first goal the following year, before a move to Spain took him to Cultural Leonesa, where he made his Segunda División B debut in September 2019. He returned home to Bolivia in early 2020 to join Bolívar, the club that would carry his rights for several years and send him out on loan twice to Russia.
The first loan, to Baltika Kaliningrad from July 2023 to June 2024, proved his most productive spell in Russia: 29 Russian Premier League appearances, one goal and four assists, 40 in all competitions. Baltika's relegation meant the option to sign him permanently was not taken up. Fernández moved on loan to Akron Tolyatti in September 2024, and the arrangement became permanent on 17 June 2025, when Akron bought his rights from Bolívar and signed him to a three-year contract until 30 June 2028.
With the Bolivia national team, the left-footed defender has been part of the squad at the 2019, 2021 and 2024 Copa Américas, and has earned more than 50 caps. His first international goal came on 14 October 2021, in a 4–0 win over Paraguay during qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. At club level, he won the Bolivian Primera División Torneo Apertura with Bolívar in 2022.
