Roland Idowu

Roland Idowu found his footing in the midfield after a move that reshaped his career trajectory. His impact was immediate, making 31 appearances and scoring four goals during that initial spell. The performance was convincing enough for the club to secure his services permanently in May 2025, adding 28 further appearances to his record.

Before his time in Scotland, Idowu had already completed a full season in the League of Ireland with Waterford. He scored 14 goals in 63 appearances there. That form led to a transfer to Shrewsbury Town in January 2024.

Idowu’s international journey reflects his dual heritage. Born in Dublin to a Nigerian father, he chose to represent the Republic of Ireland at youth level. He earned three caps for the U17 side, but has yet to break into the senior setup. His development path began at St Joseph’s Boys before he moved to England to join Southampton’s academy in 2018. After two years, he transferred to Cardiff City, where he stayed until 2021.

His time at St Mirren concluded with a new chapter in August 2026, when he signed a two-year deal with FC Botoșani in Romania. Throughout his career, he has worn the number 7 shirt at St Mirren. He is right-footed and stands 183 cm tall.

Idowu’s story is one of adaptation. He moved from Irish youth football to the English system, then back to Ireland’s top flight before returning to Europe via Scotland. Now approaching a new environment in Romania, the midfielder continues to seek progression.
