Sep van der Heijden

Sep van der Heijden joined MVV Maastricht as a free agent in September 2025, arriving from Vitesse after a season largely spent as a reserve. The move continued a pattern in his career so far: every transfer he has made as a professional has come without a fee, from Jong FC Utrecht to Vitesse and now on to Maastricht.

The goalkeeper came up through the FC Utrecht academy, having joined as a youth player in 2013 after starting out at SDO Bussum. He stayed in the Utrecht system until 2022, and in December 2021 was registered with the senior FC Utrecht squad, even as he continued to play for the reserves at Jong FC Utrecht. That arrangement ran until August 2023, with his spell at Jong Utrecht itself continuing through to June 2024, when his contract there expired.

He then signed for Vitesse in July 2024, again on a free transfer, but spent the 2024–2025 season as a reserve rather than a regular starter. That lack of first-team football set up his switch to MVV Maastricht as he looks to establish himself between the posts at senior level.

Van der Heijden has not yet been capped for the Netherlands at senior international level.
