About the player
Shin Yamada made his name at Kawasaki Frontale, the club that had brought him through its academy years before he joined the first team on a free transfer in 2022. In 2024 he finished as the J1 League's third-highest scorer with 19 goals, a return that earned him the J1 League Outstanding Player Award. He also lifted the Japanese Super Cup with Kawasaki that year.
That form took him to Celtic in 2025, in a transfer reported between £1.2 million and £1.5 million. Yamada made eight league appearances for Celtic without scoring, though he was still part of the squad that won the Scottish Premiership in 2025–26. In January 2026 he went out on loan to Preußen Münster, where he scored three goals in ten 2. He moved on again in July 2026, joining Belgian side Oud-Heverlee Leuven on loan for the following season.
Yamada earned his first Japan cap in July 2025 and was part of the squad that won the EAFF Championship that year.
