Thio's route to Portugal's second tier ran through the French lower leagues. He came through the academy at Sochaux, breaking into the reserve side for the 2018–2019 season with 23 appearances and two goals, before signing his first professional contract in January 2020. His first-team involvement stayed limited to a single Ligue 2 outing and a Coupe de la Ligue tie against Paris FC.

A move to Châteauroux in 2021 gave him regular football in the National, the third tier, and he became a fixture there, making 52 appearances and scoring six goals over three seasons. That spell ended when the club was relegated for administrative reasons rather than results on the pitch.

Grenoble took him to Ligue 2 in July 2023 on a three-year contract, though he did not find the net across 30 appearances.

His move to FC Vizela in August 2024 was completed as a free transfer once his contract at Grenoble had run down, with Portuguese outlets reporting the deal as definitive rather than a loan. He has yet to add senior international recognition to his record with either France or Côte d'Ivoire, the country of his family's descent, and his career so far has come without a major team title or individual honour attached to his name.
