About the player
Pogoń Szczecin lost the Polish Cup final in 2023–24 and again in 2024–25, and Valentin Cojocaru was at the club for both runs. He made 27 appearances that season, and in April 2024 Pogoń made the move permanent, with the contract starting on 1 July 2024. He has since played more than 68 games for the club.
The route to Szczecin was long. Cojocaru started at Dinamo București, moved to Steaua București at 11 or 12 (the club is now FCSB), before making his senior debut in 2011. His 19 appearances there stretched to 2017, a period when Steaua won the Liga I in 2012–13 and 2014–15. The trophy list from those years is long: the Cupa României and the Cupa Ligii in 2014–15, the Cupa Ligii again in 2015–16 and the Supercupa României in 2013.
He was called up to the senior Romania squad in November 2016 but has not played for the national side at that level.
Loans to Crotone and Frosinone brought no competitive appearances, and his contract at Apollon Limassol was ended by mutual consent in January 2018. At Viitorul Constanța he played 70 games and won the Cupa României in 2018–19 and the Supercupa României in 2019. A loan at FC Voluntari added 19 more appearances. He then went to Dnipro-1 in Ukraine, where he made 14 appearances, before joining OH Leuven in Belgium in the summer of 2022.
