Yael Padilla had been on the pitch for seven minutes when he scored the winning goal. Sent on as a substitute in the 73rd minute against León on 3 July 2023, the midfielder scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory for Guadalajara, becoming the youngest player to score for the club in an official competition at 17 years and 196 days — a mark that surpassed Javier Hernández's record.

Padilla had joined Chivas' academy in 2018 before that breakthrough appearance. The following season, 2023/24, he was named the best newcomer in Liga MX.

Chivas sent him on loan to their affiliate side, Tapatío, for the 2024/25 campaign in the Liga de Expansión MX, where he made his debut on 1 September 2024 in a 2-0 win over Tepatitlán.

Minutes at Chivas became harder to come by as competition for places tightened through the 2025/26 season, and in June 2026 Padilla left the club as part of a swap deal that sent him to Club Tijuana, with Kevin Castañeda moving the other way. He kept the number 31 shirt at his new club.

He featured twice for the under-18s in 2021 before stepping up to the under-20 side, with whom he won the 2024 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship and played at the 2025 U-20 World Cup. He has yet to receive a call-up to the senior national team.
