At the ÖFB-Campus in Vienna, the pace is set by who they play rather than what they have achieved. Since the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship began in 2002, the Austrian side has been defined by the gap between potential and result. They have hosted finals in Israel and Slovakia, and played in Belgium, but the memory that lingers is not the group stage exit. It is the semi-final against Germany in 2026 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They lost 1-0 after extra time, a defeat that highlighted both the standard they aim for and the ceiling they have yet to break.

The structure of this team changed when the ÖFB built its training centre in Aspern. Before 2026, players travelled to Wiener Neustadt. Now they train where the senior squad works, wearing red shirts and white shorts, colours inherited from the national setup. The team was established around 2001 or 2002, separate from the senior side which dates back to 1990. It exists to feed the future.

Coaching has stabilised under Markus Hackl, appointed in July 2024. He inherited a squad that had reached the quarter-finals in Belgium two years prior. The players now include Cynthia Adamu and Yasmin Fellner, names linked to the local club scene in Vienna. Older generations remember Irene Fuhrmann, who guided them to the final in Slovakia in 2016. That run ended without silverware, but it proved the pathway could work. Today, the focus is tighter. They are not looking for glory in the group stage.
