Beggen sits as a quarter of Luxembourg City. Locally the team is known as the Wichtelcher, a nod to old tales of gnomes said to live in Beggen.

The decades between the 1960s and the 1990s defined what the club became. A League Cup followed in 1996.

What followed the golden years was harder. After decades in the top flight stretching back to 1965–66, Avenir Beggen were relegated in 2005–06, came straight back up, then went down again in 2008–09. They now play in the Division of Honour, the second tier, still working from Stade rue Henri Dunant, a ground that holds under 5,000.
