Avranches

The Stade René Fenouillère holds 2,000, and Avranches have played there through every stage of their history.

The club traces back to April 1897, when Alexandre Legrand and others broke away from the Association Sportive du Collège d'Avranches, a college side that had kept its membership to students. Founded outside a school gate rather than inside one, US Avranches Mont-Saint-Michel opened itself to the town rather than a classroom, which is still there in the name Les Avranchinais — not a nickname so much as what the people of Avranches are called anyway.

For most of its existence the club stayed within Normandy's regional football, winning the Division d'Honneur Basse-Normandie in 1987. The turning point came in 2013–14, when Avranches won the Championnat de France Amateur and were promoted to the National, the third tier, where they stayed for ten seasons before relegation in 2018 sent them back down to National 2. Their best run in the Coupe de France reached the quarter-finals in 2016–17, ending 0–4 against Paris Saint-Germain in Caen.

Azzedine Ounahi passed through Avranches before he started a World Cup semi-final for Morocco in 2022. Matches against AS Cherbourg are still called the Derby de la Manche.

Avranches passed a financial review by the French football federation's oversight body in June 2025 and sat second in their National 2 group as of November 2025.
