Ayema

The Coupe du Bénin in 2014 came down to penalties. Ayema and AS Police finished 2-2 after normal play, and Ayema won the shoot-out 4-3. That year the competition carried the name Coupe de l'Indépendance et de la Fédération, and it remains the club's biggest title. The Benin Premier League has not gone their way.

The cup followed a promotion. In 2012/13 Ayema won the Benin Second Division and moved up to the top flight, five years after the club was set up on 22 November 2008. The club is also known as Ayéma d'Adjarra FC, a nod to the Adjarra area near Porto-Novo, and its full name is Académie Sportive Ayéma d'Adjarra FC. That name suggests an academy rather than a side assembled for a single season.

Several players from the club went on to play for Benin. Abdoul Rachid Moumini, a right-back, later moved to Azerbaijan and FK Sumgayit. Junior Olaïtan Ishola, an attacking midfielder, went to France and joined Chamois Niortais and Grenoble, then to Turkey and Göztepe. Sessi d'Almeida, a midfielder, also played for the national team.

At home they play at the Stade Saint-Louis, which holds 3,000 and is also known as the Stade Misérété. Their nearest opponents are the other Porto-Novo sides, AS Dragons FC de l'Ouémé and ASOS, and the matches between them are called the "derby de Porto-Novo". The green shirts with white sleeves have earned the club the informal name Les Verts, though other Beninese sides, Coton FC among them, are called the same.
