Azzurri

Mario Bianchi led a group of Italian immigrants in Biel/Bienne who wanted a football side of their own. It was a club for people who had arrived in a bilingual Swiss city and wanted something that sounded like home.

The club has since outgrown that circle. Today about 350 young players train under the Azzurri name, which makes it one of the largest sports clubs in the Biel region. The founders' children and grandchildren are now joined by boys and girls from all over the city. The badge is still blue and white.

The senior side has played in the Swiss Cup, the competition where a small club from a regional league can be drawn against a team from a higher division. In the 2025–26 edition Azzurri were paired with Concordia Basel. For a club whose work is mostly with juniors, a cup tie is the day the whole youth section turns up to watch the first team.

Azzurri play at the Stade de Champagne, a ground that holds 1,000 people. On a cup day that is a full house, and everyone in it knows a player, a parent or a coach on the pitch.
