Beira-Mar

Beira-Mar have spent the years since 2015 rebuilding from the district leagues of the Aveiro FA. The professional football subsidiary that had run the senior side was wound up in February 2020, a step that cleared the debts attached to it and let the parent club carry on without them.

None of that was conceivable in the spring of 1999, when Beira-Mar beat Campomaiorense 1–0 to win the Taça de Portugal. António Sousa managed that side; he had also played for the club before returning to take it to the final. Two runs to the second tier's title, in 2005–06 and again in 2009–10, sit alongside three Segunda Divisão titles from the 1960s.

The club has also been a stop for players on their way elsewhere. Eusébio turned out for Beira-Mar in 1976–77. Mário Jardel spent 2006–07 there, and Jan Oblak was loaned to the club for the 2011–12 season.

Derby days against Ovarense and Oliveirense are matches known locally as the Clássico de Aveiro. The gold and black shirts, and the Auri-Negros nickname that goes with them, trace back to a founding session that ran past midnight into 1 January 1922.
