SK Bischofshofen measures itself against Austria Salzburg and SAK 1914. Between 1956 and 1974, BSK took that title nine times.

The club did not begin as a football club at all. It split off from the Bischofshofen tourism association on 9 April 1935, was dissolved in 1938, and returned in 1946 under the name ATSV Bischofshofen before settling on SK Bischofshofen the following year.

The furthest the club reached nationally was the ÖFB Cup quarter-finals in 1965. Domestically its habit was winning whatever tier it occupied: champions of the 2. Liga three times, of the 3. Liga three times, and further down the pyramid in 1985 and again in 2000 — a club that kept finding a division to dominate even as it slid through them.

Franz Aigner and Anton Aigner remain the names attached to the club's better years.

The ground, Sportplatz Bischofshofen, holds 2,500. In 2026 the municipality withdrew the club's usage rights to it, and with the ground went the Regionalliga licence.
