Broxburn Athletic

The football club offers that anchor. Broxburn Athletic traces its lineage to 1887, but the current entity began when Mr G. W. Bartaby-Pearson secured Albyn Park in 1946, establishing a permanent home for local football after the earlier incarnation had folded in 1912.

The club wears red and white and carries nicknames including 'The Brox' and 'The Badgers'.

The modern era saw a structural shift. The club became a full member of the Scottish Football Association in 2019, a move that changed how it operated within the national pyramid. That stability culminated in the 2023–24 campaign, when they won the East of Scotland League Premier Division. The promotion followed a decisive aggregate victory over Dalbeattie Star, a 12–2 win that ended a barren spell in the higher tiers. It was the first time in the club’s history they had played in the Lowland League. They held their nerve through the process, securing a place where the history between them adds an edge to every fixture.

The Lowland League debut season runs into 2024–25. The target is not just survival; it is proving that a club built on a ground bought in 1946 can compete at a level that draws crowds away from the local parks. The capacity remains fixed at 2,158. That is the limit of the building, not the ambition.
