Carlton Town

Two of the club's own played for Sneinton before moving on to Notts County, and neither came home from the war that followed: Arthur Clamp and Andrew Mosley were both killed in action.

The nickname predates all of that.

Carlton Town's honours read almost entirely as a record of climbing rather than staying still: three straight Notts Alliance League titles from 1907 to 1910, the first club to manage it, followed decades later by step-up championships in the Notts Alliance's second and first divisions, the Central Midlands League in 2002–03 and the Northern Counties East League a division above it in 2005–06. The Nottinghamshire Senior Cup, taken in 2013, sits alongside as the one meaningful piece of silverware from a knockout competition.

In the FA Vase, the furthest run came in 2005–06, a Third Round exit; in the FA Trophy, the club reached the First Round Proper in 2021–22.

Basford United provide the local needle, a derby played with the sort of history that doesn't require explanation in Nottinghamshire.
