Financial pressures forced the dissolution of the previous entity, Long Eaton Town, which had been re-established in 1949, leading to the creation of the current club.
Garry Birtles is the name that carries the most weight, having featured for the club in the 1970s before his career took him to Nottingham Forest, where he won two European Cups. In terms of management, Gary Hamson returned to the club in 2017 as manager, bringing experience from his time as a professional midfielder with Sheffield United and Leeds United.
